The
1930’s gave a higher rise to classic wear to this day. The early suites of the
30’s reflected a larger torso look, and during that period bigger was definitely better. Majority of all the jackets were accessorized with shoulder pads to create
a square look, sleeves became narrow to the waist and lapels were peaked to
frame over the chest area on the jacket. Also new suites were created with a
more dapper appearance and had some fine details that made them stand out even
more. There was a suit called the “London Drape” was designed by Dutch tailor
Frederick Scholte, and this suite became every day wear for men. The suite had a
long tapered sleeves, pointed lapels that extended from the top button, higher
pockets and button placements, smaller armholes with a roomier upper arms. This
jacket became very popular for the men to have.
There
was also a suit called the “Zoo” suit that originated from the 30’s. It was a
jazz cultural suit that was different from traditional suits. This suit had a
longer and looser blazer. This style was fashionable, but was a less serious
look if u wanted to look formal or elegant. Another cool thing about the 30’s
they had complete outfit package. In the package you get a suite, hat, 3 pairs
of socks, 2 dress shirts, a tie, and a pair of shoes for $25. There would be no need for shopping just get it all done at once.
